Description

Biomedical Issues: Islamic Perspective by Abul Fadl Mohsin Ebrahim offers a scholarly and comprehensive examination of contemporary bioethical dilemmas through the lens of Islamic law and morality. The book delves into a wide array of challenging medical issues, providing detailed analyses grounded in primary Islamic sources (Qur’an and Sunnah), classical Islamic jurisprudence, and the rulings of modern Islamic legal councils. Topics typically covered include organ transplantation, abortion, artificial reproduction, euthanasia, end-of-life care, genetic engineering, and the ethical considerations surrounding medical research and practice. Ebrahim’s work aims to guide healthcare professionals, Islamic scholars, students, and the general public in understanding the complex intersection of modern biomedical advancements and the timeless principles of Islamic ethics, offering reasoned perspectives and fatwas (religious edicts) on these critical concerns.

The book addresses the Muslim dilemma when confronted with some of the biotechnological innovations such as those relating to abortion, infertility, contraception, etc. Analyzing these issues under broad teachings of the Quran and Sunnah, he provides a guide to perplexed Muslims in the event circumstances demand they opt for ‘modern’ techniques and devices.
