Meraki By Sara Javed Rathore

‘Meraki‘ is the first collection of poetry from the author and poetess, Sara Javed Rathore; a collection that celebrates languages spoken all over the world, as well as emotions through a variety of verses that transcend, changing in length, style and flow. Each poem is titled after an untranslatable term from different languages that can not be translated into English. It won the National Literary Award (Daud Kamal Award) for English Poetry from the Government of Pakistan in the year 2018.

Author Biography

Sara Javed Rathore is an author and poet from Lahore, Pakistan. Her first collection of poetry, titled ‘Meraki‘, came out when she was only 16. In the year 2020, it won the Daud Kamal Presidential Award from the Pakistan Academy of Letters, associated with the Government of Pakistan for this collection. She has since then published another collection of poetry titled ‘Obituaries for the Dead and the Undead‘, which came out in 2022 and ‘Long Goodbye‘, which comes out in 2023. Sara is currently doing her Bachelors in English Literature at Kinnaird College for Women University. She also interns as a Radio-Jockey (RJ) for Radio Kinnaird 97.6 FM. Her poetry deals with themes of young adulthood, chronic illness, mental health, feminism and very often, love and tragedy, as well as political and revolutionary themes. She also interns for her university’s Dramatics Society as a novice playwright and content writer for events.
