This book focuses on the central issues in the development of agriculture and the rural economy of Pakistan.

A major emphasis is on explaining the agricultural transformation process and examining the role of public policy.

The author contends that the uneven and somewhat erratic performance of the agriculture sector in Pakistan can be attributed mainly to the role of government. Most governmental policies have adversely affected the incentives for productive investment, increased agricultural productivity and the distribution of income and wealth between different farm groups.

Author Biography

Mahmood Hasan Khan teaches Economics at Simon Fraser University (Canada). He completed the undergraduate and graduate education in Pakistan and The Netherlands: His research interest is in the area of Economic Development, with particular reference to Rural Poverty and Agricultural Development in countries like Pakistan. It is reflected in his many publications as books and journal articles. He has visited Universities in Pakistan, Turkey and USA, and worked as a consultant to several governments and international organizations.
