Description

Where Clouds Meet is a novel by Tahir Mehmood that depicts various facets of life encompassing love, peace, conflict, existence of pervasive evil, and the unceasing desire and struggle for virtue. Life which is ubiquitously diverse and ever changing, presents itself to be explored in all its manifestations. Thus, it unleashes an unending and insatiable search for human species to explore, understand, define and construct life into an ever-cherished heavenly image.

Tahir Mehmood remains an ardent student of the mysteries surrounding human life, love, conflict and passion. He is a traveler cum-nomad by passion and habit.

Ali had first learnt about ‘survival of the fittest’ in his college days, and then experienced in his military life that ‘survival is a virtue which keeps hope alive to fight for another day, and today, through display of an unparalleled courage, he proved that ‘going beyond the ethos of survival for a higher cause is one of the highest forms of virtue.”

Dr Brigadier Umar Sattar has done M.Phil in War Studies and carries unique achievement of being Ph.D in National Strategy with grade Distinction from National Defence University, Egypt The author has varied experience of Command, Staff and Instructions in Pakistan Army. He has also served in United Nations Peacekeeping missions abroad. He is happily married and blessed with four daughters and one son. He is staunch exponent of two basic concepts within the domain of national strategy, “addressing the root causes permanently rather than fighting the symptoms of terrorism” that is explicitly addressed in this book, and the concept of “win without fight through optimization of deterrence against the adversary, being covered in this book, “Win without Fight.”

The book titled as ‘win without fight’ gives comprehensive, insightful and perceptive account of ‘national power, substantiating centrality of this concept with critical cases from ancient, medieval and modern history. An excellent resource for students of national security, strategic studies and national strategy, as well, for those who would wish to understand the dynamics of world politics

Professor Dr. Rasul Bakhsh Rais Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS)

The central argument is that when there are good national as well as war plans, brilliant leaders, well-trained fighters and technologically advanced forces, this simply reduces the odds of disaster but cannot control final outcome, duration and losses to adversaries. But when there is initiation of war with poor planning, lack of perfect support from local populace, minimal political and economic stability with weak arid il-equipped and less trained military along with ignored and ruled least benefited other important elements of national power, then war can always backfire more often and explode in face of both sides and more often the weaker side. Moreover, for nations which do not amicably focus on entirety of national power balance encompassing balance in and balance of power, then peace time prosperity and war time success can be just a dream
