Description

This workbook has several features that will help students apply the knowledge of grammar to suit different contexts, a requirement in the new Secondary English Language Syllabus 2001. Passages are written to illustrate specific grammar items in an authentic context. Every passage is tagged with the text-type and cross-curricular labels which teachers will find useful in their lesson preparation. All the exercises are designed to provide students with realistic language practice. In line with the current trend in modern education, every unit includes project work related to the unit’s topic and grammar focus, as well as information on websites that students can visit.

Authors Biography

George Jacobs holds an M.A. in Linguistics with a Specialisation in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology. He has taught English and Applied Linguistics in his native United States as well as in Thailand, Singapore, China and Central America. From 1993-2000 he was a Language Specialist at the Regional Language Centre (RELC) in Singapore and has over 100 academic publications to his credit. Presently he is an educational consultant. He is also an active member of the Nature Society (Singapore).

Loh Wan Inn has a doctorate in education from Rutgers. She has lived, studied and taught in various places: Singapore, Ireland, North America, Australia and Taiwan. She has been conducting courses, workshops and camps for teachers, students and parents on science, mathematics, environmental education, cooperative learning, curriculum issues and multiple intelligences. She is a member of the Institute of Biologist, UK, the Nature Society (Singapore) and the Malaysian Nature Society. Currently she is an educational consultant.
